Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced SEC reporting professional to lead the company’s external financial reporting and compliance function. This role will be responsible for the preparation and filing of SEC reports, management of the company’s financial disclosures, and oversight of internal controls related to financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will have several years of hands-on SEC reporting experience within a public company environment and a strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, SOX compliance, and XBRL reporting requirements. Experience using SEC reporting and disclosure management software such as Wdesk is strongly preferred.

This is a highly visible role that works closely with executive leadership, external auditors, and cross-functional teams to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and filing of SEC reports, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and other required filings.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, and related disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Manage the company’s disclosure process and reporting calendar to ensure timely filings.
  • Prepare quarterly earnings materials, including earnings releases, supporting schedules, investor presentation materials, and earnings call scripts.
  • Assist with the preparation of Board of Directors and Audit Committee presentation materials related to financial results, forecasts, key accounting matters, and reporting topics.
  • Coordinate external reporting communications to ensure consistency across SEC filings, press releases, earnings materials, and board presentations.
  • Maintain and enhance disclosure controls and internal controls over financial reporting in compliance with SOX requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee XBRL tagging and filing processes.
  • Serve as the primary administrator and power user for SEC reporting software, including Wdesk or similar disclosure management platforms.
  • Partner with external auditors on quarterly reviews, annual audits, and SEC-related matters.
  • Research and document technical accounting conclusions for complex or non-routine transactions.
  • Monitor new accounting pronouncements and SEC regulations and assess their impact on the company’s reporting obligations.
  • Assist with equity accounting, debt disclosures, and other technical accounting areas as needed.
  • Support the implementation and improvement of reporting processes, controls, and systems.
  • Participate in special projects related to public company readiness, financing transactions, and process improvements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in SEC reporting, external reporting, or technical accounting.
  • Public company experience required.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience preparing and filing SEC reports, including Forms 10-K and 10-Q.
  • Experience preparing earnings releases, investor communications, board reporting materials, and related external financial communications preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC rules and regulations, SOX compliance, and disclosure requirements.
  • Experience with SEC reporting and disclosure management software such as Wdesk/Workiva required.
  • Familiarity with XBRL tagging and filing requirements.
  • Experience coordinating with external auditors and managing audit support requests.
  • Strong technical accounting research and documentation skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical accounting matters clearly across the organization.

Preferred Background

  • Combination of public accounting and industry SEC reporting experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting companies through growth, financing activities, or public company readiness initiatives is a plus.
  • Experience improving reporting processes and implementing scalable controls in a growing organization preferred.
