Small, St. Charles based, family-owned service provider that is consistently voted as one of the top companies to work for in the St. Louis area is looking for a new CFO. Working closely with the executive team, the CFO will be the financial steward for the organization, overseeing accounting, FP&A, cash management, new business financial models, financial compliance (tax and audit), as well as general leadership. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Overarching responsibilities include general executive leadership and building relationships with key internal and external customers and partners, administration of Finance & Accounting, Human Resources, Shipping & Receiving, Compliance, and other duties.
- Executive leadership responsibilities include:
- Work closely with Board of Directors and executive team and actively contribute to long-term and short-term goal setting and strategy
- Take appropriate time to understand the business model and company culture and then work within that framework to develop creative approaches for continuous improvement
- Build healthy, trusting, and long-term relationship with the sales network, executive team, department heads, employees and other stakeholders.
- Positively contribute to the Company’s culture by leading by example, “getting hands dirty”, working diligently with a positive attitude, and respecting the unique history and value proposition of the Company.
- Finance responsibilities include:
- Financial Planning & Analysis (budget, forecast, and ad-hoc analysis and financial modeling)
- Financial Reporting packages, including analysis and presentation to executive team and shareholders (monthly, quarterly, and yearly)
- Cash management and projections, including banking relationship and short-term investments
- Accounting responsibilities include:
- Drive the month-end close process
- Manage and develop staff
- Oversight of – but not “in the weeds” with – all accounting functions (i.e., journal entries, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Inventory, bank recs, accruals, fixed assets, General Ledger software, etc).
- HR responsibilities include:
- Employee time keeping, Payroll, Employee Benefits (health insurance, 401k, fringe benefits, record tracking, etc), new hire paperwork and compliance, etc.
- Warehouse/Shipping & Receiving responsibilities include oversight of the long-time Warehouse Manager, understanding and financial tracking of inventory and supplies.
- Compliance responsibilities include:
- business insurance
- workers’ comp insurance
- Point of contact for external auditors
- Federal and State tax returns – S-corp and K-1s for shareholders compiled by outside accountants, however CFO will need to oversee process and ensure timely and accurate filings
- State business registrations
- Sales & Use Tax compliance
- Customer audits for compliance and revenue protection
- Other responsibilities as requested by President and Board of Directors
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- MBA/CPA strongly preferred
- 10 years’ minimum experience in accounting and finance for small-midsize companies
- Steady, and upward career progression, ideally starting in public accounting (audit preferred), followed by a few years in accounting operations (general ledger maintenance and month-end close), followed by a hands-on corporate FP&A/forward-looking financial oversight position, all with small-midsize companies (under $100M in sales).
- Must possess natural leadership abilities
- Strong financial modeling skills
- Ability to build and sustain strong, trusting, long-term business relationships
- Ability to work with all levels of staff from entry-level clerk to CEO
- Experience with family-owned businesses and the strong personalities that have a stake in the business
