High-growth, extremely well-funded specialty construction company is seeking an up-and-coming Controller. Headquartered in St. Louis.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Controller will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and strategic financial management. This individual will support executive leadership by providing insights and recommendations to drive financial health and operational efficiency in a rapidly growing fiber internet provider environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Management/Month-end Closings:
- Oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, account reconciliations, general ledger and full month- and year-end close processes in line with GAAP.
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations, including tax filings and reporting standards.
- Collaborate with external auditors to support annual audits and resolve any findings or recommendations.
- Strategic Planning:
- Analyze financial performance and provide actionable recommendations to executive leadership.
- Contribute to long-term strategic planning, including capital investments, growth initiatives, and risk management.
- Cost Control & Efficiency:
- Monitor and manage operational expenses to optimize cost efficiency while supporting business objectives.
- Partner with operations teams to track and manage project budgets for fiber infrastructure deployment and maintenance.
- Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Participate in the budgeting process, including preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis.
- Provide regular forecasts to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
- Technology & Systems Integration:
- Implement and maintain financial management systems to ensure accurate data and efficient processes.
- Collaborate with IT and operations teams to integrate financial systems with other business platforms (e.g., billing, CRM, project management).
- Team Leadership:
- Manage and mentor accounting and finance team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and professional development.
- Evaluate staffing needs and structure to align with the company’s growth trajectory.
JOB EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification, and/or MBA is a plus.
- Six (6) years’ progressive experience.
- Public accounting experience preferred.
- Construction and/or fiber to the home (FTTH) industry experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning.
- Advanced proficiency in financial analysis tools and software (e.g., Accounting software, financial modeling software, ERP systems).
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft 365 platform. Exceptional experience with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint software, Outlook email, and full utilization of Teams
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the demonstrated ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Professional demeanor and excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and trends is a plus.
- Proven ability to solve problems creatively and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively handle confidential information.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively handle new and/or sensitive situations, and determine what actions are required.
