We are working with a reputable, growing, midsized construction company headquartered in St. Louis to find a Payroll Specialist. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, responsible for producing timely and accurate payrolls and related reporting as well as the implementation of effective payroll methods and procedures. This position requires a unique individual to thrive in a challenging, face paced, detail orientated and process driven environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enter, maintain, and process weekly payroll for union employees.
  • Enter and update employee payroll data, including timekeeping, deductions, and adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate payroll information, files, and records in both written and electronic formats to provide up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
  • Help with the preparation of union reports and other compliance documents.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding basic payroll questions and needs in a timely effective manner.
  • Support the Payroll Manager in resolving payroll discrepancies and issues.
  • Ensure payroll processing deadlines are met.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, and document management.
  • Assist with the preparation of payroll reports and audits.
  • Part of team for preparing and remitting union and non-union reports, new hire reporting, timely payroll, payroll taxes and garnishments.
  • Serve as the field payroll expert within and outside of the payroll department.
  • Assist in special projects and ad hoc reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of experience in union payroll processing, and construction-related industry experience.
  • Working knowledge of payroll systems such as ADP.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, Excel) and ViewPoint.
  • Ability to learn new computer software programs.
  • Attention to detail; innovative thinker; proven process improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Maintain normal standards of ethics, conduct, and organizational policies in job-related activities.
