We have been engaged to find a VP of Finance/CFO for a rapidly growing startup out of St. Louis. The company operates in an expanding segment of the transportation industry and needs a highly motivated and hands-on finance leader to be a strategic business partner to the CEO in addition to building out and scaling the back office finance and accounting function. The ideal candidate will have an MBA and/or CPA and 12-20 years of progressive and relevant experience – ideally at a small, entrepreneurial and growing company where they have made significant and demonstrable contributions. This is a very rewarding role for a savvy and determined professional willing to commit and go “all-in” and do what it takes to get the job done.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Business Partner to CEO Provide insightful finance/data support to key leaders in Sales & Marketing and Operations
- Oversee buildout of accounting function, including:
- Hiring and development of key staff, including a Controller or Lead Senior Accountant to execute month-end close and generate financial statements (note – the key “doers” are currently in place)
- Implementation of strong internal controls
- Implementation and management of an efficient and streamlined general ledger system capable of scaling and handling multiple entities
- Accurate, insightful and timely financial reporting, including:
- Standard monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages to Executive Team and BOD (P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow Statements)
- Operational and Financial KPIs
- A streamlined system capable of handling requests in real time
- Treasury/cash management including working capital and long-term debt
- Strategic planning with detailed pro-forma financials
- Financial Planning & Analysis, including 3-year plan as well as Annual Operating Plan and ongoing monthly maintenance of budgets and forecasts.
- Financial modeling for acquisitions, new business cases, and capex initiatives
- Obtain strategic financing from financial institutions
- Point of contact for banking relationships
- Formally present financial information to key stakeholders periodically
- Liaison to outside accounting firm, ensuring compliance with GAAP, as well as, Federal, State, and Local Tax regulations while minimizing tax burden
- Ensure State registration and franchise tax compliance
- Ensure Sales & Use Tax compliance
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business required; MBA or Master’s Degree highly preferred
- CPA preferred
- 8 years minimum relevant career experience; 12+ preferred
- Must have years of progressive corporate finance experience with demonstrable results. We are not looking for a Controller.
- Equipment leasing experience preferred
- Must have experience with cash management
- Significant experience modeling for acquisitions and new business cases
- Public accounting experience preferred
- Must have strong Excel/financial modeling skills
