Profile
I am a transformative finance executive with a proven track record of helping struggling organizations improve their financial acumen leading to stronger financial performance. I have had full P&L responsibility for manufacturing and sales organizations ranging from $60M in sales to currently $1.2B. Most of my roles have been been highlighted by taking “inadequate” or “immature” finance and accounting teams and building them into trusted business partners. I bring an entrepreneurial and hands-on work ethic that drives for results and gets things done.
Career Highlight 1: Most recently, I led the combination of people, ERP systems, and processes during the transformation of 5 acquisitions into a single $1.2B sales organization. While I was lead on the financial integration, I provided heavy support to the supply chain and HR aspects of the integration.
Career Highlight 2: In my role as Finance Director for one of the world’s largest biologics manufacturers, I led the financial modelling for a major site expansion and the building of a new R&D facility. For the site expansion, I led the capture of state, city, and county tax incentives linked to new job creation. Said tax incentives enabled the financial justification and approval of the project.
Career Highlight 3: I transformed the industrial operations finance function to increase transparency of results for an animal health product manufacturer. This transparency was critical as the site emerged from FDA scrutiny. The company emerged with a completely different cost structure following investments in the quality function. Providing the parent company timely insight into the effectiveness of their investments was critical in this role.
Why Hire This Candidate (In Their Own Words): I have a relentless approach to studying the business to identify the activities that can make or break financial performance. With that knowledge, I educate and advise stakeholders at all levels of the organization about how the actions that have been or will be taken are/will impact the success of the operation. I lead with the motto: Educate, Support, & Challenge.
Strengths: I approach my role as the finance leader with an operations mindset and a keen understanding of the challenges managers face, enabling me to earn the organization’s trust and become a relied upon advisor. I thrive in fast paced and changing environments.
Hobbies & Personal Interests: I enjoy frequent travel to see my older kids in their college environment, spending weekends watching my youngest play various sports, mainly baseball, and spending time at Lake of the Ozarks.
Credentials: I hold a bachelors degree from Purdue University in management with an emphasis in accounting and a minor in finance. I also earned my MBA from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Industry Experience: Construction/Engineering, Food Production, Healthcare, Life Sciences and Biotech, Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals, Wholesale & Distribution
Company Fit: I have served as the finance lead for businesses with sales ranging from $60M to currently $1.2B. I have supported both publicly traded and privately held companies.
Management Experience: I have been managing people for 25 years. I have been accountable for teams as small as one. Currently, the organization that I lead includes 34 associates covering financial planning & reporting, AR, and AP.
Software Experience: I have worked extensively with SAP, JDEdwards, and Epicor Eclipse. I have experience using Business Objects, Hyperion Financial Planning, and OneStream. It is important for finance associates to understand how the system works – not just expert users.
