Summary

As Audit Director, you will serve as the firm’s final audit sign-off authority and lead the audit practice. This role is responsible for scaling audit quality beyond any individual reviewer by overseeing engagement quality control, developing the audit team, and ensuring a high-volume audit model remains efficient, consistent, and peer-review ready as the organization grows.

You will also help modernize the audit function by partnering with internal technology teams to introduce AI-driven automation and workflow improvements that enhance both quality and efficiency.

Focus of the role: This is a quality and operational leadership position with no business development or sales responsibilities. You will work closely with executive leadership to shape the firm’s audit strategy, including talent development, organizational structure, systems, and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the final engagement sign-off and engagement quality review authority across all audit engagements.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop audit managers, seniors, and staff, with responsibility for coaching, performance management, and career development.

  • Oversee audit quality by maintaining methodology, engagement quality management (SQMS), and peer-review readiness.

  • Improve audit workflows to increase efficiency while maintaining quality, turnaround times, and profitability.

  • Collaborate with technology and operations teams to implement AI-enabled tools and automation that improve audit execution.

  • Standardize audit methodologies and processes as new teams and practices are integrated into the organization, ensuring consistency across a growing platform.

Qualifications

  • Active CPA license in good standing.

  • Eligibility to practice in California through licensure or CPA mobility/reciprocity.

  • Approximately 12–20+ years of public accounting experience, typically at the Senior Audit Manager, Director, or equivalent leadership level.

  • Demonstrated experience serving as the final engagement sign-off or engagement quality reviewer.

  • Proven success leading and developing audit professionals across multiple levels.

  • Experience designing, implementing, or overseeing audit quality systems, including SQMS and peer review readiness.
